Pat Kolbe's Fishing Report
12-23-10
Fished out from Wendt's today in 6-7 FOW and had some decent success. Managed 9 huge bluegills, some of the widest gills I've ever caught, and six keeper perch. Lots of small perch, bluegills and even a small crappie caught. Action was much better from 7-10 am than it was later on in the day. Marked fish consistently throughout the day. Fish were caught on white/orange Gill Pill and orange/yellow 1/16 ounce Northland Forage Minnow. Tried a bunch of other jigs/colors/sizes once things slowed down but nothing trigged the bite back to fast-action. 12-13 inches of ice...lots of vechiles driving out there. Ice was smooth and easy to travel.

Got out on the ice for the first time this morning. Just wanted to have some success on the first day, so went to Miller's Bay to try and pull some panfish. Moved around plenty, and each spot instantly had tons of small perch. You can just watch them looking down your hole and see tons of these little guys. Caught and released probably 30-40 in a little over two hours. Nothing worth keeping as biggest might have pushed 6-7 inches but that's it. Didn't really seem to matter what I was using, but I did switch between a Rat Finke, Genz Bug and had most success on white/orange Gill Pill with waxies. Ice depth was 7+ inches everywhere I drilled a hole out there.
